Is Google going to start charging for business listings?

1 min read

In case you missed our recent Facebook live video, we went over the recent speculation that Google may start charging for its Google My Business listings.

Google recently sent out surveys to select local businesses, posing questions regarding pricing option preferences and gauging interest level on future features.

What this means for you

Google may start charging a fee to be listed, and fortunately it looks like any fees will be fairly cheap (somewhere between $10-70 for a monthly subscription). Based on their survey questions, it sounds like Google may be rolling out new features for GMB that might make the fee more worthwhile for your business. These could include:

  • Background checks

  • Automated review system

  • Verified customer reviews

  • Videos on your business profile

  • Google guarantees

  • Promote the “Book” button

  • Google customer support

  • Ads on business listings

  • and more

Some of these items could be beneficial to your home service business, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on any of these changes rolling out for your Google My Business listing. We’re excited about the possibility of increased GMB customer support as this is much needed.

So, what now?

Start thinking about what features you currently like the most and what you may be interested in utilizing in the future. You may also want to review your marketing budget to accommodate this potential extra expense. We don’t know when these changes could happen, but we want you to be prepared if and when they do.
