In 2015 more than 24 Billion selfies were uploaded according to Google and that number has only increased. So, it’s not surprising that in 2016 Google began considering photos associated with Google My Business accounts as a factor in its rankings.
Photos are important because they are the first thing customer see when your Google My Business profile pops up. You can add photos of your building, your trucks, your team and their smiling faces, your company logo and even shots of your product or services in action.
Photos are also important because they are used by Google to help your rankings. Google considers the quality of your photos and is looking for at least 10 high resolution photos that are JPG or PNG format, 10KB to 5MB in size and 720×720 resolution. You can find out more about Google’s photo specifications here. Google also considers how often your photos are updated so we recommend at least once a month.
Once you’ve added your photos you can review the Photo Insights in your Google My Business user interface and see how your number of photos and photo views compare to your competition. This can be valuable information in making changes to types of photos, quality and numbers.
